ProjectTRACKER Help - Hints & Tricks

First use of ProjectTRACKER

  • Go to the Setup page and select the max. number of lines in tables views and the ProjectTRACKER style you like.
  • Select the View page and switch on the programs you want to work with - select as less as possible to not get lost in very long selection lists.
  • Select the Efforts page.
    • Set the current Year.
    • Select yourself in the User selection box.
    • Select the current week with the Today link.
    • Add the tasks you work on - the operation tasks (e.g. absence) should be mandatory in the list.
  • Done ;-) Now you can start recording your working time and the remaining efforts if you are required to enter these.

Web Browser

The ProjectTRACKER is tested with MS Internet Explorer version 6.x1) up to 8.x and Firefox version 2.x up to 10.x. With some minor exceptions in the representation of data, both browsers work with the ProjectTRACKER. Other browser work most probably also, but this was not tested.

  • You should enable cookies and the Java Script functionality of your browser.
  • A minimal screen resolutions of 1600×1200 is highly recommended for the small (“..S”) Styles - otherwise tables will be broken into the next line and readability is degraded.
  • IE behaves different for e.g. Task-Group or User-Group field changes. For IE after changing a group you have to select another field to overtake the value, while in Firefox you can just press the RETURN button.

Table Navigation

To allow a quick overview, the number of records is shown in the headline (here #3):

In case more records are available as set in the Default Page Size in Setup, the page selector at the end of the table indicates the number of pages (here 9):

Note: The indication on the total number of pages for summary pages does not work with MySQL - here you only can see that there is more than one page (e.g. 1 of 2, 2 of 3, 3 of 3)!

ProjectTracker allows filtering and selection of data via selection and text fields like in the following selection menu:

Text fields have predefined wild cards:

  • '%TEXT%' for name fields, e.g. program, task, report filters
  • 'GROUP%' for group fields, e.g. task groups, user groups

  • Most of the filter entries are stored permanently, means even when logging out and in, keep the same value. Please be aware that this can have interesting effects when you change pages with filters set, e.g.:
  • You can use the filter behavior of the ProjectTracker to analyse the same task in different pages by clicking the ID field in the input grid of the Tasks page and then change to the Estimates, Schedule or Efforts page to check for detailed information on this task only.
  • Be aware to get textual filter entries accepted you need to press the SEARCH button, while list- and check-boxes immediately get active when changed.

Errors are typically shown in the line above the “problematic” area, e.g.

In this case you do not have the rights to edit the record. Note: All values entered so far are not stored until the error condition is solved by the user!

No Access?

You think you should have access to certain functions / cannot read things you need:

  • Check if your View settings are correct.
  • Check your access rights via the Users menu, and if not correct contact your system administrator.

Reset HTML Parameters

When you click on the ProjectTRACKER icon in the top left corner you can quickly reset all HTML link parameters (e.g. like This is sometimes needed when you filtered individual items (e.g. one task) and you want to switch back to the unfiltered, overview mode.
